Obituary of Dakota E. Mook

Dakota Mook, 26, passed away suddenly Monday evening January 8, 2024, while he was in rehab. He lost his battle to mental health in which he struggled with schizophrenia, which very sadly led him to take his own life. He was born February 19, 1997, in Ashtabula, the son of Dorrance E. Mook III and Sheila (Housel) Shoenberger. Dakota had the sweetest, kindest heart who was always willing to help anyone in need. He certainly had his struggles, but if you got to know Dakota, you knew he had a heart of gold and always meant well. Dakota grew up on a farm where he loved hunting, fishing, riding four wheelers, anything to do with the outdoors. He was involved in 4-H where he loved showing pigs, goats, ducks, chickens and cows, and received a showmanship award. Dakota is survived by his mother and stepfather, Sheila (Scott) Shoenberger; siblings, Dorrance “Eddie” Mook IV, Raquel (Thomas) Sawicki, Dillon (Kayla) Mook, and his little cousin that was like a brother to him, Bentley Shoenberger; maternal grandmother, Judy Housel; paternal grandmother, Mary Jayne Mook; niece, Kalon Mook; nephew, Kaden Sawicki; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Dorrance Mook, III; maternal grandfather, Eugene Housel; and paternal grandfather, Dorrance Mook, Jr. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 12PM at the Conneaut Church of God, 5327 Center Rd. (SR 7), Conneaut, with Pastor Carson Robson officiating. Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 11AM until the time of service at 12PM.
